Oso’s Story

My parents adopted him as a puppy in November 2020. It was covid and things were hard. My mom was sick with cancer and my parents desperately needed some joy in their lives.

They always had German Shepards and lost their male of about 12 years just a few months before. They had another female, Roxy, but knew they all needed another friend. So they went looking for a new puppy.

After searching for a bit, they found a beautiful pup full of life and love. He brought so much joy to them. My parents started smiling and laughing for the first time in quite a bit. He was a little rascal and they loved him so much. Very spoiled to say the least.

For two years, he was the best friend they could’ve asked for. He was so sweet and gentle with my mom when she was sick and always so good with their other dog, Roxy, who was also older and starting to suffer from hip dysplasia.

He was great with me too! I would visit often from Kansas City and we were best friends. My dad would tell me he would look for me after I left. I brought my dog, Reecie, with me and the three of them were the three amigos, playing constantly and bugging each other.

Unfortunately, my mom passed in November 2022. It was so hard for us all, especially my dad. But he had his buddies, Oso and Roxy, to help him out. My dad even told me my mom had once said, while they were looking for their new puppy, she really wanted him to have a friend around if something happened to her. They were even more attached now with my mom gone. Playing all the time.

Then, over the summer, I lost Reecie. I was devasted. She has been my best friend for twelve years. I called my dad and said, “I’m coming to Oklahoma.” I wanted to see him and Oso and Roxy. It was so healing spending time with them. While I was there, my dad made me promise that if anything ever happened to him, I would take care of his dogs. I said, “of course, dad, I got it.” Not thinking that he would be going anywhere for a long time.

Then I went back to Kansas City and decided to look for a new dog. I found Hershey and was smitten. I called my dad to tell him about my new pup but he didn’t answer.

Two days later I got the call from a friend that my dad was gone. I was stunned and devasted.

Oso was by himself at the house. I immediately came to Oklahoma. It turns out my dad had just put Roxy down, she was old and it was her time. I was sad but relieved because she was disabled. So Oso was without his family for the first time.

That’s where I come in. I promised my dad I would take care of him and I did. I came to the house to check on him since no one could go back there. He didn’t know anyone else and was scared. He was barking and aggressive. But not me, it took him a few minutes but then he recognized his big sis and his eyes lit up.

So there we were in Oklahoma together. We had lots of work to do. We called Loreanne at Big Friendly Dog training. She was concerned but said we could do it. We had limited time to work with him and get him trained. We started immediately. My dad had not trained him so he didn’t know commands or had any leash training. He also needed socialization.

Now here we are more than two months later. Oso knows commands, sleeps in the kennel and is social and playful. He is even best friends with my new pup, Hershey. They play all the time!

Loreanne is continuing to be the most amazing trainer for our precious rescue dog, Bruno. Each time we have a session the whole family learns new skills to improve Bruno’s everyday life. Our last session was especially needed because Bruno was having trouble feeling comfortable with our daughter’s boyfriend. After just two hours of training Bruno had a new buddy! Loreanne always puts everyone at ease with her calm demeanor and expertise.
Thanks Loreanne!!!

We just had our 2nd session with Loreanne for our 11 month old Pit Bull rescue. We have been working a lot on focus and recall. Last week we were working on letting him walk outside with a long lead and recalling him by saying “Griffin…Come”. Thank God that he learned that command for short and long distances! Yesterday, I opened the door to the garage, not knowing the garage door was up, and Griffin took off like a bat out of hell sprinting down the street. My heart sank! After screaming his name out of panic. It hit me to slow down and use our commands. I yelled his name which got his attention, then I said “Griffin, Come”… 2 words. 1 time. He came sprinting to me and finished his return with a sit.😅 Loreanne is the best and truly cares about what your family and your dog needs.
And the small amount of training we have done literally saved my dog’s life!♥️

Our dog was very timid and scared of people, totally unsocialized after being mostly abandoned as a puppy. It was very emotional for us to go through after suddenly losing our previous dog. Lori has been there for us every step of the way, helping our dog to learn to not only trust us but also follow our direction. Our pup has gained confidence and is catching onto training commands so well. Highly recommend Big Friendly Dog Training!

Loreanne is a fantastic dog trainer! We have a reactive pom who would lash out at our other dog. They couldn’t be in the same room, and any time they made eye contact, she would try to bite him. The advice and training we received has made all the difference! We’re now able to have them lay on the couch together without issue! Loreanne is always available to answer questions, and has given us guidance that will help us for years down the road. Loreanne was always in contact about appointments and was always on time! Worth every penny to have our little fur family happy and safe again!

My boyfriend and I have been training with Big Friendly Dog Training to help our dog, Charlie, gain more confidence for a little over a month and have completed our second session. We’ve been impressed since the very beginning. Loreanne is very thorough, knowledgeable, and truly wants all her clients and their pets to succeed! She’s always available to answer any questions and/or provide additional guidance. The training program is designed to ease dogs into situations in a logical and self-paced manner. We’ve already seen progress in our dog and are excited to help her grow. We highly recommend Big Friendly Dog Training!

Loreanne is the best!  We rescued a 65lb pit mix and quickly ran into some problems we didn’t know how to handle.  A lot of leash pulling, overexcitement, and anxiety and high energy in the house were our major concerns. Thankfully, Loreanne had it down.  She is so sure, calm, and nonjudgemental – I can’t emphasize that enough. Our boy is so much calmer in the house and so much more trusting outside the house.  Going on walks used to be the most anxiety-inducing act of the day and the fight of our lives.  Now, we go on a loose-leash happy walk and everyone has a good time.

Loreanne is great! We have been working with her for a few months now. We have 2 littermate pups and Loreanne has taught us the skills needed to teach the pups manners(sit, stay, place), enjoy our walks again (less pulling & barking), and increase the bonding experience. The training has been a game changer and I am extremely happy with the results.
